2012 Activity Schedule
APRIL 4/1 Opening Weekend! - Time to get out there and enjoy nature in the magical land of Rip Van Winkle! There's nothing like the smell of the world as it springs back to life! Come and enjoy the quiet beauty with us on our first weekend of 2012.
6-8 Easter Weekend! - We'll have Easter crafts, egg decorating, and a movie at KIDS Club on Saturday morning and and Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday. Don't forget your cameras!
at KIDS Club but the rest of the day is for the grown ups! Romantic movies all day, dinner by candlelight Saturday night ($), and slow dancing under the stars in the glow of the fire after that. 27-29 May Day Weekend - Let's welcome summer with a good old-fashioned May Day Celebration that lasts the whole weekend!
MAY 4-6 Good Old-Fashioned Fun Weekend - Let's relive the simple pleasures of days long gone. Forget the electronics at home, say good-bye to your worries for the weekend and just enjoy each and every moment. 11-13 Mother's Day Weekend - Let Mom know how thankful you are for her! Kids can come and make something for mom at the KIDS Club on Friday night and Saturday morning. Then invite Mom to High Tea Saturday Afternoon. Moms are free. Everybody else is $1.00. 18-20 Rip Van Winkle Campground's FIRST Camper Dog Show! Dogs, here's your moment in the spotlight! Have your human register you to be in the show! 25-27 Memorial Day Weekend - Let's honor our fallen and enjoy what they fought so hard for - our family, our friends, and our freedom! Patriotic crafts at KIDS Club on Friday night and Saturday morning. Sunset Memorial Service on Saturday night.
JUNE 1-3 Scavenger Hunt - Join us for a scavenger hunt! There will be hunts for all ages! 8-10 National Get Outdoors Day! - Come celebrate the great outdoors at Rip Van Winkle Campground! Take a guided Nature Walk around the campground and learn about the area and the animals who live here! Join us in the early evening for stories and roasted marshmallows by the fire!
22-24 Rip Van Winkle Guided Nature Walk – Let your imagination take hold as you explore Rip Van Winkle’s woods! Take a tour of the property and learn about the trees, animals, and history of the area.
JULY 29-7/1 Pre-4th of July Festivities! Stay tuned for details! 6-8 Dog Days of Summer are here! – Now’s the time to see what a good old fashioned swimming hole formed by a cool mountain stream feels like. If the stream’s too cool, try our pool! Or take a scenic drive into the mountains and see what tubing on the Esopus is like. There are lots of ways to cool off in the land of Rip Van Winkle! Saturday night join us for ghost stories by the fire at 8:00pm, guaranteed to send a shiver down your spine! 13-15 Old West Cook-Off – Cook up some western grub and enter the cook-off contest! Try it over the fire for a really amazing flavor! Categories of Judging: Best Meat, Chili, and Dessert. Cook-off participants sign up in the office before noon on Saturday for instructions. Judging at 4:30pm. Potluck dinner open to everyone, 5pm (Please bring a dish to share if you don’t enter the cook-off contest.) 20-22 Christmas In July – Christmas is magical, especially in the land of Rip Van Winkle! Bring your Holiday Spirit and decorations! Site decorating contest, kids coloring contest, and a visit by Santa tops it off! 27-29 Pool Party Weekend! There''ll be "Kid Swim", "Adult Swim", and "Open Swim" throughout the weekend so that we can play games and have a good old fashioned pool party!
AUGUST 3-5 Good Old-Fahioned Fun! - Put away the video games, the phone and electronics and just enjoy BEING. Play GIANT checkers, horseshoes, or ladderball. Go pedal boating. Swim. Listen to the sounds of nature or the voices of those you love. Relax. Refresh. Revive.
24 - 26 Pet Weekend Bring your crowd/people/animal friendly pet to the Rec Hall and show off their style for their adoring fans in a Pet Fashion Show, learn the basics of pet care from a pro, and more!
SEPTEMBER 8/31 - 9/3 Labor Day Weekend - Come enjoy the last long weekend of summer with us. Enjoy our trout fishing, Bass fishing, pedal boats, horseshoes, hayrides, bingo, RC track (bring your own cars), outdoor games, swimming, bingo, arcade, and movies. 7-9 Harvest Weekend - Come savor the magnificent views of the Hudson Valley. Hop aboard the Rip Van Winkle Bus to visit a local farm and pick your own apples, pumpkins, and raspberries. ($) The fun doesn’t have to stop now! Make a reservation for next weekend and leave your unit set up onsite with no storage fee! Friday night is time for stories by the fire at 7:00pm– join us! 14-16 21-23 28-30
OCTOBER 5-8 Columbus Day Weekend – Come enjoy the fall foliage during the last big camping weekend of 2011. Don’t miss the GIANT bonfire! Enjoy no-hassle camping next weekend. Make a reservation for next weekend then leave your camping unit right on the site with no charge for storage.. 12-14 Halloween Weekend – Bring your decorations and costumes! Costume parade, trick or treating, site decorating contest, haunted trail.
