Group and rally sites are the perfect solution for friends and families who are traveling in groups of six or more, want to spend their trip eating meals together, playing or just sitting around the campfire together. The group and rally sites are located near the beautiful Plattekill Creek, playground and restrooms.
Our 70 x 200 ft rally area has on-site water, electric outlets ranging from 20 amp to 20/30/50 amp and a nearby dump station for RVs, as well as flush toilets for nearby tenters.
The rally area has plenty of room for games, meetings or a nice group campfire at the group pit. The rally area is conveniently located near the swimming hole, a playground and has a 10x20 canopy over the picnic tables.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can we just show up without booking ahead?
A: The answer to that has multiple parts, but the short answer is NO:
- We have a limited number of group and rally sites. If you show up unannounced and we have already booked those sites or have booked the site that your group will fit on, then you will have nowhere to camp. Depending on how far you’ve traveled, that can be a real bummer.
- Getting all the information into the computer is time-consuming. If you haven’t filled out the requested forms so we can do the data entry ahead of time, you and your entire group will have to wait for us to get it all filled in on the computer. If we are busy checking in people with reservations, you will have to wait until we have finished checking them in and may have to wait repeatedly as we process people arriving with reservations ahead of you.
Q: Why do group and rally reservations have to be communicated via email by only the group leader?
A: This answer also has multiple parts:
- We get multiple requests. We process them on a first come, first served basis. Emails are time and date stamped.
- There is a lot of information to enter and having it all in one place makes it exponentially easier
- It avoids miscommunication.
- Multiple people contacting us from the same group slows everything down and could result in the reservation being dropped unintentionally.
Q: Why don’t you guarantee a specific group site or rally site?
A: We reserve the right to put you on a site that can accommodate your camping equipment and your size, just as with any other site. You are welcome to make a request. If we can honor it, we will.
Q: What does it mean - “Minimum Rate per 2 nights”? What if I don’t have that number of people or tents?
A: It means that no matter how many people or camping units or nights you stay up to the minimum listed, that is the price. If you go over the number of nights, camping units, or people listed, there is an extra charge/each/night.
Q: What is the refund policy?
A: There are no refunds or transfers of reservations for any reason within 7 days of the first day of the reservation. If you need to cancel, please email and put “cancellation” in the subject line.
Q: Why do I have to pay for the entire reservation when I book it?
A: The only reservation at Rip Van Winkle Campground is a paid reservation, just like any of our other sites. The group leader is responsible for their group - paying for it, signing for it as being in charge of the group, and signing in the group.
Q: Why does the group leader have to be the 1st to arrive or arrive concurrently with the group?
A: The person who paid needs to be there to present ID and the credit card used for payment. They need to identify who will be joining them.
Q: Why do we each need ID to check in?
A: We need to know who is on-site in case of emergency AND need to know that you were invited by your group leader.
Q: Why can’t we charge our electric cars on our site?
A: We have had electric panels melted due to the draw that occurs when an electric vehicle is charged which puts a site out of service until repairs are made and costs money to repair. The panels on sites are not meant to handle electric cars. We provide electric vehicle charging stations for our electric vehicle owners’ convenience.
Q: Are there wild animals?
A: Yes, this is their home. There are bugs, birds, rodents, skunks, raccoons, deer, bear, etcetera. They like your garbage and food more than they like you so just make sure that you put your garbage in the dumpster frequently and don’t leave food out or bring it in your tent with you.
